    Poem in The Minison Zine

    Poem in The Minison Zine

The latest edition of The Minison Zine has just come out, with my short piece “The Language of Flowers—” (opens to pdf) rounding out the collection. Inspired by Issue 15’s theme “full bloom”, I used the format of Victorian floriography to revisit the mythological associations of three plants.

Just as I was writing this post I received another acceptance! “A Hitch in Time (Is Not Fine)” is a short character study and will be appearing in the second issue of Vocivia Magazine. It’s shaping up to see a late winter (northern summer) release; more details to come.

    #sfstoryoftheday

    #sfstoryoftheday

First of all—my short story “Honey Trap”, recently published online with Crow & Cross Keys, has been selected as an #sfstoryoftheday by M. A. Blanchard! Look into the hashtag on Twitter for a curated offering of speculative short fiction. It’s an honour to have my “story full of good bits” receive this recommendation. (As described by M. A. Blanchard, not myself!)

Second—I’ll be having a piece in the soon-to-appear fifteenth issue of The Minison Zine, a periodical from The Minison Project. “The Language of Flowers—” is somewhere between genres. Part poem, part 14-word story, and coming later this month.

And finally—Wrongdoing Magazine have been teasing details for their third issue, due out in May. Keep an eye out for more news on the edition, which will include my short story “Mind Your Hat”.

“Honey Trap” in Crow & Cross Keys

“Honey Trap” in Crow & Cross Keys

My short story “Honey Trap” has been published with Crow & Cross Keys, a free-to-read online literary journal.

I was touched by the editor’s words at publication time:

“Our Saturday offering is longer than our usual, and we think it’s just brilliant.

[…] When we read this story we wanted more. We weren’t ready to leave it behind, and luckily @calliopium was willing to extend it for us!

We hope you adore it as much as we do.”

Elou Carroll, editor Crow & Cross Keys (via Twitter 26/03/22)

If you want to read about…

    🌵the gothic wild west
    👩‍❤️‍💋‍👩kisses by lamplight
    🤰dangerous liaisons
    🏰a gilded prison
    🐝fucked up bees
    🗡️& an indomitable will

… then give “Honey Trap” a read!

I have some more good news coming up shortly, too…
